Relief and other good news!
Today's procedure to drain Joe's belly was a great success. They got 3 liters of fluid! Imagine that! Its no wonder he couldn't eat. He had a full lunch in record time.
Tests show that Joe's remaining kidney is working just fine. Now that he can ingest a normal amount of food and liquid, it is working at its normal rate.
All of Joe's siblings were tested today. We should have the results by Thursday. They are looking for a sibling with the same blood type and a specific antigen. Hopefully, they will get two matches. This is the next step toward doing the stem cell transplant.
It looks like Joe will remain at Strong for 2-3 more days so that they can monitor his food/fluid intake and other metabolic functions.
All good news today.

Yes, it was good to be there today to help Joe out. Yes, to see all of our siblings, cousins and our mom, all together....wonderful! The hope is, that this will work out for you, Joe. You have our neverending love and support, in all realms. Vicki, YOU TOO have us in your corner. We want you to know that we are ALL there for you. The love has been felt by all of us today. words cannot convey the emotions in the lab yesterday. all of us with our taped arms,wondering who will be the winner in the race for the bone marrow donor. no one passed out either! grateful that the fluid was finally drained and some relief was felt by joe...finally!! the kidney is working...wonderful!! vicki,continue to be the tower of strength..we are all here to help you maintain that strenght...eat something!!!! we love you all. roxanne
